Summer Reading:

Completed typed journals due on September 8. For those who have opted to take the test, you will write two one page min/max papers on the following prompts and those essays will be due on September 8.(One page per book) All writing format rules apply.


Thousand Splendid Suns: Within the story, the two women participate in a murder and a cover up of the murder. While most people will agree that murder is wrong, audiences seem to applaud the act. Explain your position as to whether you support murder, disagree with their actions entirely, or…whether you would like to specify your middle-ground by drawing on the specifics of their situation.

Rich Dad Poor Dad: Within this non-fiction informative book, Kiyosaki and Lechter provide a great deal of information on how to make better decisions regarding your financial future. In your essay, draw one approach from the book that you can apply to your life right now in order to establish a good foundation for the college and beyond.

Sold: Choose a scene from this novel you believe left a lasting image on your mind. Explain what would be needed for such a young person to overcome the emotional scars of a childhood like this. Stay positive and list exactly what this person would need, how long the recovery would take, and what type of challenges this person might encounter later on in life.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: This novel is written with great humor and while one can enjoy the novel as a playful romp through space, Adam’s also used his novel to poke fun at current government and the very real fear of annihilation due to nuclear weapons. Discuss how one scene can be used to discuss a real
issue going on today.
